This guy look like my navy shipmate E1 named Dexter. He is 6ft 3in tall with the same build. He was one in our group of guys who went to Leyte in 1989 to attend a shipmates wedding to a beautiful leyte girl. With my ability to speak cebuano, I was the groups interpreter with the locals. We all stayed there for 11 days and it was awesome. On the second day of our stay, we were invited to go to the girls farm up in the mountain about 1 hour hike on the trail. We spent the whole day enjoying the natural spring and great view of the landscapes. The sun was almost down when we headed back to town and for some reason, Dexter and I lost the whole group. I assured Dexter I know where I am and guaranteed him that I can take him back to town. We were following this little unfamiliar trail going downhill and found a small stream. I have this feeling that the stream will lead us back to town (crossing my fingers this time) so we followed downstream. At a distance, I heard some female voice chatting and some laughter. I figured that I could seek direction from the folks presuming that they were there washing clothes alongside the stream. Dexter was really enjoying walking on th stream and because of the heat, he took off his shirt and stuck it in my backpack. While I was trying to climb up the banks to get to the trail that runs along the stream, Dexter stayed walking on the stream and told him that I will meet him where the ladies are washing clothes. Because of my high vantage point, I could see a group of women sitting on the big rocks and looks like they are rinsing their laundry and getting ready to go home and I can see Dexter still on the stream headed to the ladies location. The ladies still cannot see him because of tall shrubs between him and the ladies. As I decended the hill, Dexter had cleared the tall srubs and was in direct view of the ladies. There were six women doing their laundry. The next thing I knew, the chatting and laughing stopped and in the next second, there was high pitched screaming and crying coming out of five women and looked like they were running for their lives yelling "kapre kapre" Five ran away and one woman lay in the ground passed out (nahimatay) I always carry a first aid kit in my backpack and tried to revive the woman. As soon as she was revived, she begged us not to take her to the balete tree because no one will take care of her four children. I felt bad for her and assured her that the kapre will not do any harm to her as long as she points us to the right direction to town. Dexter gave her 20 dollars and we went on to our way. News went so fast like internet that it was the headline in town the following morning. There is a Kapre in town. 3 years later, Dexter had also married a beautiful pinay from Ilocos Norte and they now live in Alabama with 2 beautiful kids.....
